WWII USCG Shore Party Fixed Loop M1 Helmet & Westinghouse Liner (Painted Set)

This is an original WWII United States Coast Guard Shore Party M1 helmet set. It is one of four USCG helmets the previous owner recovered in the 1960's from a Quonset hut at the grounds of the former Adak Army and Naval Airbase in Adak, Alaska on the Aleutian Islands. At the helmet's sides, underneath an original field repaint, are faint yellow discs. Helmets belonging to Naval and Coast Guard units were often marked at their sides with yellow discs in order to differentiate themselves from Army and Marine units during amphibious invasions. The McCord manufactured fixed loop shell's heat stamp of 235D dates its production to July 1942. In addition to its USCG markings, the helmet retains its original field repaint, cork texture, and brass-buckled khaki chinstraps. The Westinghouse manufactured liner's original olive drab factory paint finish is good condition. It features green-painted steel A-washers and a khaki suspension, dating the liner's production from mid-1943 to mid-1944. The khaki suspension is strong and intact. It comes complete with its original headband, neckband, and green-buckled leather liner strap. The leather components have dried somewhat.
