WWII U.S. Army Air Corps/Force Enlisted Man's Service Cap W/ Rain Cover (ID'd)
This original WWII U.S. Army Air Corps/Force enlisted man's service cap is identified to the same man who owned this duffel bag, Albert Scolli, laundry number S-6199. Unfortunately, we were not able to locate him in the National Archives' Enlistment Records. Tied to his duffel bag are two separate tags addressed to the veteran's mother, "Mrs. Verne Scolli, Route 1 Hinsdale". Perhaps researching this information may prove fruitful. This cap is constructed of olive drab wool felt, and features a russet brown leather brim and chinstrap. The front is decorated with the small brass disc insignia, as used by U.S. Army enlisted men. Unfortunately, no manufacturer's label remains, however it is a larger size 7 1/4. It still retains its wire stiffener and very rare plastic rain protector, which has yellowed with age.
