WWI Infantryman's Field Gear Set (1917-18)
This is an original WWI infantryman's field gear set. This lot consists of a haversack, meat can pouch, mess kit, utensils, ammo belt, bandage pouch, canteen, cup, and cover. The Simmons Mfg. Co. haversack dates to 1917. The meat can pouch is the early variety, with the button closure and leather protectors for utensils. The Tusa Co. manufactured mess kit, Wallace Brothers Co. manufactured fork and spoon, and L.F. & C. manufactured knife all date to 1917. The Mills manufactured ammunition belt's date stamping has unfortunately faded beyond legibility, however the latest patent date stamped on the brass fixtures shows 1915. The bandage pouch shows no markings. The canteen's canvas cover was manufactured by M. & C. Co. in 1918, while the canteen and cup were both produced by L.F. & C. in 1917. This would serve as the perfect addition to any WWI rifleman's display.
