Early-WWII U.S. M1 Helmet Liner Headband (Double Wire)
This original, and exceedingly rare, WWII U.S. headband was manufactured by the George R. Carter Co. This particular manufacturer only produced a single contract (W199-QM-25904), awarded on June 1, 1942, and is without question one of the most elusive manufacturers of these pieces, making it a must-have for the discerning helmet collector. This is the first and only example we have ever offered and only the third that has come to the market within the past several years. The only other available at the moment is listed on Gustafson's. It features a blue ink manufacturer's marking, 'double wire' buckle variation, and triple-weave herringbone twill - three hallmarks of this particular contract. Its leather remains quite soft and supple. This would be an ideal headband for all helmet liners with non-painted steel A-washers (including Hawleys and low-pressure liners).
