Pre-WWII German Commercial M18 Allgemeine SS "Droop Bill" Helmet & Liner Set
This is an original, and exceptionally rare, 1930s German commercially produced M18 style helmet, used by the Allgemeine SS prior to the development of the new M35. The helmet's front visor features a downward "dip", causing collectors to dub it the "droop bill". The steel shell lacks manufacturer's stampings. It showcases an original black parade finish, void of decals, as these were issued prior to the development of SS helmet insignia. That said, painted in the helmet's interior dome is an original SS marking. The interior retains its original three-pad leather liner and integrated chinstrap system. One of the leather liner pads exhibits a faint SS-Standarte marking, while the underside of another liner pad is inscribed with the original owner's initials, "PH". Interestingly, we can see the liner was in the helmet during a repaint, as some black paint was applied to the liner, itself. Miraculously, the leather components and drawstring are still present, but certainly show signs of age and damage. The rivets securing the liner are all original and show no signs of tampering, however only the rear rivet is still secured to the liner.
