Late-WWII U.S. Westinghouse Paratrooper M1-C Helmet Liner (11th Airborne)
This is an original late-WWII U.S. Westinghouse manufactured paratrooper helmet liner. Mass-produced helmet liner decals did not become common until the late stages of WWII, but that didn’t stop artistic soldiers from decorating their helmets. It was common for men to cut from divisional documents their insignia and glue the cutouts directly to their helmets. We can see on this example the 11th Airborne “decals” are actually glued pieces of paper. Beneath the insignia remains an original black repaint. The interior features original factory installed A-yokes with large cast buckles. The A-washers are blackened brass, which dates the liner's production from mid-1944 to 1945. The khaki suspension exhibits a likely collector-done repair in which a frayed portion of the neck suspension has been stabilized by stitching it to one of the A-washers. It comes complete with its original headband and neckband. This liner would display quite nicely when paired with a web chin cup and an M1-C helmet shell.
