Early-WWII U.S. M1 Helmet Liner Headband (Double Wire)
This original WWII headband was manufactured by American Stay Co. It features the 'double wire' buckle variation, which dates the headband's production from early-1942 to mid-1942. The leather is identified to its original owner, "Gary A. Peterson, 270139__". Unfortunately, we were unable to locate Peterson's records in the National Archives, potentially indicating he held the rank of an officer. This would be an ideal headband for all helmet liners with non-painted steel A-washers (including Hawleys and low-pressure liners).
