Early-WWII U.S. Fixed Loop M1 Helmet & Rayon Hawley Liner (1941 Set)
This is an original early-WWII U.S. M1 helmet set. The McCord manufactured fixed loop helmet shell's considerably early heat stamp of 56C dates its production to December 1941. It retains its original factory paint, cork texture, and OD#3 (khaki) chinstraps. The chinstraps feature the early cast-brass buckle, carried over from the M1917A1 helmet. The helmet's early style fixed loops remain strong and intact. The Hawley manufactured helmet liner retains aluminum washers, a first pattern rayon suspension, and a rarely-intact stationary leather liner strap, which date the liner's production to mid-1941. The rayon suspension is strong and intact. It comes complete with its interestingly-installed size 3 rayon neckband and headband. One of the small United Carr snaps had pulled through the headband's rayon material, but was simply repaired by undoing it, then snapping it back in place. The Hawley liner's exterior is painted red and stenciled with "Cathay Fire Station". We are uncertain if this has a military connection or if it was painted for civilian purposes.
