Early-WWII German M24 Training "Stielhandgranate" (1939)
This is an original, and exceptionally rare, early-WWII German M24 training Stielhandgranate "potato masher". The completely inert warhead exhibits the manufacturer's marking "ЯR 1940 336", denoting production by Richard Rinker GmbH, Menden, Kreis Iserlohn. The warhead still unscrews and showcases its original red factory finish. The original wooden handle is also marked with Richard Rinker's "ЯR", and is dated 1939. Contributing to its rarity, is the relatively short production run, which ended in 1943. The handle's "Ub" marking signifies "Ubungs", or, in English, "Excercise". Unfortunately, the wooden handle is missing its screw cap, enclosed pull string, and porcelain bead. Given its nature as a reusable training device, one can understand, though, how these components would quickly go missing. The warhead has a little "wiggle" on the handle, however this piece is in excellent condition considering its age and intended use.
